We designed SymplyWORKSPACE to be equally effective in office/studio and remote and on-set locations. Setup and operation is identical, with the exception of some remote and on-set location may not have Internet access. In these cases the following procedure will make operation seamless.


Here's the process summary:

  • Set your SymplyWORKSPACE's Public network IP address to a known, static IPv4 address
  • Set the client's Public network port's IP to an address in the same IPv4 range
  • Set the client's Metadata (sharing control) network port's IP to an address in the same IPv4 range as the default SymplyWORKSPACE metadata range (172.16.179.13-20)

 

NOTE: Only use this procedure if you do not have Internet access for the SymplyWORKSPACE, otherwise you can just use the standard installation procedure.

  • Configure the Public network
  • Open the SymplyWORKSPACE ASSISTANT URL at: http://symplyworkspace-1.local:8088
  • Open the Change Network Settings option from the 'hamburger' menu in the top-left
  • Configure the network options as follows:
    • IP Address set a valid IPv4 address (e.g. 192.168.5.1)
    • Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    • Gateway leave blank
    • DNS leave blank

macOS


Configure the Public network

In System Preferences, select the network port connected to your router and/or switch/SymplyWORKSPACE and configure as appropriate for your network:

  • IP Address set a valid IPv4 address (e.g. 192.168.5.5)
  • Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
  • Router leave blank
  • DNS Server leave blank

 

For example: 

  • SymplyWORKSPACE Public Port: 192.168.5.1
  •  Mac Public Port: 192.168.5.5

In System Preferences, select the network port connected to your unmanaged Ethernet switch and configure as:

  • IP Address 172.16.179.[13-20]
    • example: 172.16.179.13
  • Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
  • Router leave blank
  • DNS Server leave blank

In Network Connections, select the network port connected to your router and/or switch and configure as:

  • IP Address set to a valid IPv4 address (e.g. 192.168.5.5)
