1 - Confirm you have everything
1a For SymplyPRO Thunderbolt - connecting via Thunderbolt

1b For SymplyPRO Thunderbolt - connecting via SAS
- SymplyPRO Thunderbolt product
- SAS cable (not included with SymplyPRO Thunderbolt purchase)
- With correct connectors for your host's SAS port and the SymplyPRO Thunderbolt host port.

2 - Identify SAS Chip
The LTO drives in SymplyPRO Thunderbolt product use a SAS to Thunderbolt architecture, therefore it is necessary to install the correct SAS device driver for the SAS chip installed in your SymplyPRO Thunderbolt product.
Symply has two current SAS drivers one for Half-Height Drives [H1244-GT0] and one for Full-Height drives [H1288].

You can also identify the correct driver to install by checking your SymplyPRO Thunderbolt chassis serial number (found on the bottom of the chassis). Check the legend below to confirm which SAS chip is installed in your SymplyPRO chassis:

It is necessary to install a number software packages to add SymplyPRO support to your computer:

4 - Install Symply ATTO driver
Before powering on the system, ensure that none of the ventilation holes are blocked, that there are no obstructions around the system blocking air-flow, and that the environment is within the specified operating conditions and that acclimatization time has been allowed.
- Plugin the power cable, the supplied Thunderbolt cable and power on the SymplyPRO LTO Desktop
- Get the Windows SymplyPRO LTO Desktop installers [see above]
- Install the driver following the on-screen instructions provided by the installer
- Open the Thunderbolt Control Center and enable SymplyPRO LTO as a connected device
- Open the Device Manager
- Under the Other devices category you will see IBM ULTRIUM-XXX SCSI Sequential Device
- Right-click and select Update Driver
- Click Browse my computer for drivers
- Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
- Select LTO Tape drive and click Next
- The Windows LTO driver will install
For Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022, you will need to download and install the IBM LTO Tape driver for the relevant version of Windows Server. These can be downloaded from the Symply support website. Follow the instructions in the installer.
5 - Windows Server: Install IBM LTO Tape driver
For Windows Server 2016, 2019 & 2022 you will need to download and install the IBM LTO Tape driver for the relevant version of Windows Server.
- Tape Drive driver for Windows Server 2022
- Tape Drive driver for Windows Server 2019
- Tape Drive driver for Windows Server 2016
Follow the instructions in the installer.
