It is important to keep the firmware of your SymplyPRO Ethernet Appliance up-to-date as changes are made to keep it working as trouble-free as possible as well as to ensure you're able to take advantage of new features as they're added.
Updating the firmware on a SymplyPRO Ethernet Appliance is a straightforward process, however a couple of measures need to be observed to avoid any problems.
Before updating the firmware, be sure to have completed any backup or archive processes and close any of these applications. While the firmware is being updated, hosts will be unable to access any of the LTO drive(s).
Update Process
Download firmware file
The firmware update file is provided as a .zbd file. Download the file and note the filename.
SymplyPRO Ethernet Appliance firmware | XC8100T_2_03_1f3.zbd |
The firmware update is done over your network connection using the SFP protocol to the SymplyPRO using either the SFP Data Ports or the RJ45 Management Port.
Default IP addresses: Management Port (MP1) - RJ45: 192.168.0.1 Data Port 1 (DP1) - SFP: 10.0.0.1 Data Port 2 (DP2) - SFP: 172.16.0.1
Upload firmware file
- Open a Terminal session in the directory where you saved the firmware update file (.zbd file)
- Copy the file to the SymplyPRO: Ethernet sftp -P 20 admin@<ip_address>
- Enter the SymplyPRO Ethernet password when prompted
- The default password will start with "ATtET" e.g. ATtET8422T100001
- Upload the file: PUT XC8100T_<version_number>.zbd
- When you're returned to the prompt, exit the SFTP session: exit
NOTE: Update process takes ~2-5 minutes to complete
Monitor the update process
Monitoring the update process is done by watching the update log as it progresses via a SSH session.
- Open a SSH session to the SymplyPRO Ethernet, in this example we'll connect to the default Management Port (RJ45):
- Open the SSH session: ssh admin@192.168.0.1
- Run the built-in FlashStatus command to show the latest entries to the update log: FlashStatus
- When you see an entry at the top of the log stating that the update was successful, the SymplyPRO Ethernet will need to be restarted with the following command: FirmwareRestart
- The SymplyPRO Ethernet will take approximately 2-5 minutes to restart after the FirmwareRestart command has been issued.
