Using Symply RAID Manager to change RAID level


SymplySPARK ships configured as a RAID 5. You can change the RAID level at any time, however it is important to understand that changing the RAID level will destroy all the data on the RAID.


  1. Open Symply RAID Manager (/Applications/Symply RAID Manager/Symply RAID Manager)
    Click on the Add Controller button
  2. Your SymplySPARK will be listed in the next dialog box, select it from the list and click Add
    (leave the Password field as it is).
  3. Once connected select Delete Array
  4. Select the Array that you wish to delete, check Confirm and then Delete Array.
    NB This process will destroy all data on the Array!
  5. To create a new Array, Select Create Array
  6.  Follow the instructions to select the desired RAID level, and number of drives. We recommend leaving the Sector Size as the default 512 Bytes. Leave the Initialization type as "On the fly initialization"
  7. To view progress of the Array initialization, select the Array tab on the main on the SymplyRAID Manager window and the system will display the progress information.
