Drive or Media Error
The SymplyLTO has detected a drive or media error, but it cannot isolate the error to faulty hardware or to the tape cartridge. Ensure the tape cartridge is the correct media type, please refer to the LTO compatibility guide [here]
If the tape cartridge is the correct media type, then power cycle the drive and retry the operation that caused the error to occur.
If the problem persists then perform the following action:
- Retry the operation with a different cartridge. If the operation succeeds, the original cartridge is defective, we recommend discarding the defective cartridge, making sure you have a copy of the data on the tape.
- If the operation fails, then insert a scratch (blank) data cartridge into the unit and carry out the [Run Drive Diagnostic] test. Note that the test is destructive to any data on the cartridge.
- If the diagnostic fails then contact support, the tape drive may need replacing.
- If the diagnostic passed then there is a problem with the original data carriage and it should be discarded once data is copied off it.
- If you are getting errors across multiple data cartridges then insert a scratch (blank) data cartridge into the unit and carry out the [Run Drive Diagnostic] test. Note that the test is destructive to any data on the cartridge.
- If the diagnostic fails then contact support, the tape drive may need replacing.
- If the diagnostic passes, then you will have to perform a [Test Head] check. Note that the test is destructive to any data on the cartridge.
- If the diagnostic fails then contact support, the tape drive may need replacing.
- If the diagnostic succeeds, replace the cartridges that caused the problem.
