Media Error

 

The SymplyLTO has detected a Media error due to a faulty tape cartridge or an invalid tape cartridge. Ensure the tape cartridge is the [correct media generation].  If the tape cartridge is the correct media type, retry the operation, or try another tape cartridge.


NOTE:  Error 7 is also generated by expired Cleaning Cartridges.  Error 7 also occurs if you are using WORM cartridge, ensure you are appending datasets on WORM media rather than attempting to write over existing datasets.


If the problem occurs with multiple tape cartridges, use the following procedure:


  • If possible please run the tape cartridge in a different tape drive.  If the operation in the different tape drive fails and it displays an error 6 or 7 on the Single Character Display (SCD), then the media is likely to be faulty and needs replacing.  If the operation succeeded in the different tape drive the run [Test Cartridge & Media] in the original tape drive.
  • If the Test Cartridge & Media diagnostic test fails then replace the media.
  • If the Test Cartridge & Media diagnostic succeeds then clean the drive head and then run the [Run Drive Diagnostics] test.
    • If the drive fails the Run Drive Diagnostics test, then open a support ticket
    • If the drive diagnostic succeeds, perform the operation again that produced the initial media error.
