Occasionally driver and firmware updates are made for products, these are often aimed at improving reliability and fixing any issues uncovered and as such are important. Firmware updates should never be interrupted, so before beginning any firmware upgrade process ensure you have enough time. Take time to read through the steps before attempting to follow them so you're certain of what you'll need and when. Download any and all tools and a copy of the firmware you intend to apply before starting.
This process upgrades the firmware of the internal ATTO SAS chip of your SymplyPRO Thunderbolt product.
1. Identify SAS Chip
The LTO drives in SymplyPRO Thunderbolt products connect internally via a SAS to Thunderbolt bridge architecture, therefore it is necessary to install the correct SAS device driver for the SAS chip installed in your SymplyPRO Thunderbolt product, and have the correct firmware package if you are updating the firmware of the SAS chip.
Symply has two current SAS chips one for Half-Height Drives [ExpressSAS 12Gb GT], one for Full-Height drives [ExpressSAS 12Gb], along with one legacy Half-Height products [ExpressSAS 6Gb].
You can identify the correct driver or firmware to install by checking your SymplyPRO Thunderbolt chassis serial number (found on the bottom of the chassis). Check the legend below to confirm which SAS chip is installed in your SymplyPRO chassis:
