If there is a fault with one or more disks in the SPARK, an audible beeper will sound and a RED light will be visible on the front of the SPARK indicating which of the 8 disks has failed. Out-of-the factory SPARKs are configured with a RAID 5 array, meaning the array can remain intact with a single disk failure, you should contact us as soon as possible to arrange a replacement disk.
The beeper can be disabled either by depressing the Mute Beeper Button on the back of the SPARK, or by using Symply RAID Manager and choosing Preference > Beeper (checkbox).
In some instances a hard disk where the SPARK has detected issues with a disk, it may become Locked, this happens to protect the system from rebuilding an array back to a potentially faulty disk. Should you hear the beeper and see a Locked disk in Symply RAID Manager, please [collect the controller logs] and send them to us as soon as possible so we can advise if it's suitable to Unlock the disk or arrange for a replacement disk.
A Locked disk can be Unlocked via the Symply RAID Manager as follows:
NOTE: Only follow these instructions if instructed to do so by Symply Support
- Open Symply RAID Manager, connect to the SPARK
- Select Options
- Select Unlock Drives
- Select the Locked Drive
- Confirm the Unlock
- This completes the operation. If you return to the Array screen you will see the notice that the Array is rebuilding...
