There are some circumstances when attempting to re-format a SymplySPARK for use with Windows (NTFS) may fail possibly with the following error message "Disk Management console view is not up-to-date". The most common cause for these failures are due to a Windows computer having some other disk management software/service installed. We are aware of issues with:

  • Tiger Technologies
  • SNS

We would also anticipate having issues with any other disk management software designed to aid the management of SAN environments where the 3rd party software is used to manage block-level storage devices such as SymplySPARK which presents as Fibre Channel storage over the Thunderbolt™ 3 connection.


Here are a couple of example screen shots which may be symptomatic of such a problem existing on your Windows computer. When right-clicking on the Disk Management left-hand pane in order to Initialize a disk as GPT, you may see this error message:

Following the instructions in the error dialog of refreshing the Disk Management utility and rebooting your Windows computer will not resolve this issue. It will be necessary to reference the 3rd party software's instructions on how to disable/uninstall that software to enable the completion of the formatting of the SymplySPARK.


When attempting to Create Simple Volume... when experiencing this issue you will see this error message upon completing the wizard:
