By default, the SAS driver for macOS, Windows, and Linux uses a non-optimal transfer size for tape drives.
To ensure optimal performance, the maximum transfer size should be adjusted as follows:
macOS and Windows: Set to 1MB
Linux: Set to 512KB
You can update these settings using either the ATTO 360 Storage Software or the ATTO Config Tool
Note: The ATTO Config Tool is required to configure the maximum transfer size on the legacy 6Gb SAS driver
Important: Updates should never be interrupted, so before beginning the process ensure you have enough time to carry out the process.
To updated the max transfer size using 360 Storage
- Download and install 360 Storage Software, following installer instructions.
- Open 360 Storage Software and Login, using the credentials of a user account with admin privileges.
- Select desired Adapter
- Navigate to Adapter Configuration.
- Select Driver
- Select Max transfer size.
- Set max transfer size
- Save Changes, you will be prompted to restart the computer.
Note: If could cannot see any information under the Adapter Configuration section. You will need to update your SAS driver.
To updated the max transfer size using Config Tool
- Open the ATTO ConfigTool located in /Applications/ATTO ConfigTool/ATTO ConfigTool.app
- Login using the credentials of a user account with admin privileges.
- Select the device to update from the list of devices under 'localhost'. SymplyPRO products use either ExpressSAS 12Gb GT, 12Gb or 6Gb Adapter.
- Select the tab labelled Advanced.
- Change the Maximum I/O Transfer Size to the optimum setting.
- Select the Commit button, this will take a few minutes to complete.
- Upon completion of the process you will be instructed to restart your computer for the change to be applied.
