It can happen that individual HDD (disks) can under-perform, to test this the SPARK has a built-in test which runs a Read/Write test on each disk individually - the test is a raw disk performance test performed directly on the disk from the controller. Having the test performed on the controller removes any variability that happens when running synthetic disk speed tests run from the connected host computers.
The controller Disk RW Test is done using Symply RAID Manager:
- Open Symply RAID Manager: /Applications/Symply RAID Manager/Symply RAID Manager
- Click the Add Controller button in the toolbar to select and add your connected SPARK
- Choose the SPARK you wish to test
- From the Menu Bar, select Controller > Disk RW test
- Confirm you're happy for the test to continue even though it will only be a Read performance test
- Select the Event tab and wait for the results to show, please send us a screen shot of the results and ideally a new controller log too: [How to get the controller log file from the SymplySPARK].
