TABLE OF CONTENTS
Overview
SymplyATOM2 is Symply’s cross-platform LTO tape drive management and diagnostic application. Version 2.1.0 builds on the 2.0.2 general release with new support tooling, a fully translated interface, and fixes that make everyday operation more dependable and safer for your data.
Release builds: macOS 2.1.0 (66011) and Windows 2.1.0.35.
What’s New in 2.1.0
ATTO Diagnostics NEW
When you use Submit to Support, you can now choose to attach ATTO’s own diagnostic report alongside your support bundle. This gives Symply Support a view of your host adapter’s side of the connection without asking you to collect anything separately. It is entirely optional.
- macOS: the first time you use it, macOS asks for a one-time approval of SymplyATOM2Helper in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions. SymplyATOM2 explains this and offers a button that opens the right Settings page for you.
- Windows: no extra set up.
French, Spanish & Simplified Chinese NEW
The whole application is now translated into French, Spanish and Simplified Chinese, alongside English. SymplyATOM2 follows your computer’s display language (macOS: system language; Windows: Windows display language) - restart SymplyATOM2 after changing it. The Simplified Chinese translation has been reviewed by a native speaker for consistent terminology.
Safer Tape Erasure NEW
Run Test, Host Validation and Full Write erase the tape as part of the test. SymplyATOM2 now always asks for your confirmation before doing so on a tape it detects is already LTFS-formatted - in every case, on both macOS and Windows. Nothing is erased on a formatted tape without an explicit “yes”.
Lifetime Humidity on Windows NEW
The Drive tab’s temperature panel on Windows now also shows humidity values on drives that report them (LTO-9 and newer), matching macOS.
Fixes & Improvements
| Platform | What was fixed |
|---|---|
| macOS | Launch hang. On some systems SymplyATOM2 could freeze indefinitely during the drive scan at launch (spinning cursor, force-quit needed). This is resolved. |
| macOS | False “already formatted” alarm. Format could report a tape as already LTFS-formatted when it was not (for example after a test had cleared its LTFS structure). |
| macOS | Support submissions keep recent results. After restarting the app, a genuine recent test result could be left out of a support submission even though the submission screen showed it as available. |
| macOS & Windows | Drive names no longer swap after a firmware upgrade. When one of two connected drives was upgraded, the two drives’ model names could swap until the app was relaunched. |
| macOS & Windows | SymplyPRO XTL LTO-8 HH drives are labelled correctly. They were previously shown as LTO-9 HH. |
| Windows | Humidity reading corrected. Drive humidity could show an incorrect value (for example 1% where macOS showed 30% on the same LTO-9 drive). |
| Windows | Correct IBM LTFS SDE for your Windows version. IBM’s 2.4.8.x LTFS SDE does not support Windows 10 or Windows Server 2019. The full installer now detects your Windows version and installs LTFS SDE 2.4.5.1 on those systems (2.4.8.x on Windows 11 and Server 2022 & 2025), replacing an incompatible version if one is already installed. NOTE: LTFS SDE 2.4.5.1 does not support LTO-10 - an OS upgrade will be needed to support LTFS SDE 2.4.8.x for LTO-10 support. |
| macOS | Installer improvements. On Apple Silicon Macs the installer now repairs Rosetta if a macOS upgrade has removed it, and installs the Apple Silicon-only SymplyLTFS component only on Apple Silicon (Intel Macs use IBM LTFS). |
| macOS & Windows | Fully translated Drive tab. The detail panels under the Drive tab’s metric cards (Lifetime POH, This session, Drive loads and so on) are now translated in French, Spanish and Simplified Chinese, with clearer Chinese wording across the app. |
